Dress Right for the Casino

Casino dress codes vary significantly across countries. Here's the actual dress code for every country in this guide, based on Anna's personal experience.

Smart casual (most countries): This is the standard across Poland, Czech Republic, Belgium, Netherlands, Finland, Norway, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, and Greece. It means: no shorts, no flip-flops, no sportswear. Clean shirt, trousers/skirt, closed shoes. Jeans are acceptable at most venues if they're clean and not ripped.

Smart casual with jacket recommended (Germany, Austria): German Spielbank casinos and Austrian Casinos Austria venues recommend a jacket on the classic gaming floor (table games area). The slot floor is typically smart casual without a jacket requirement. Some venues will lend you a jacket if you arrive without one.

Smart to formal (select venues): Grand Resort Lagonissi Athens and Bayerischer Hof Munich lean slightly dressier on Friday and Saturday evenings. A blazer or cocktail dress is appropriate. You won't be refused in smart casual, but you'll feel more comfortable dressed up.

No dress code: Finland's Casino Helsinki and Veikkaus gaming lounges have no formal dress code. Come as you are. This is the exception rather than the rule.

Anna's rule of thumb: If you'd wear it to a nice restaurant, you'll be fine at 95% of the casinos in this guide.
