Anna's Weekend Verdict

"The Sofitel Grand Sopot is the single best value casino hotel in this entire guide โ€” 5-star art nouveau on the Baltic Sea, with a proper casino in the basement, for โ‚ฌ130 a night. The combination of beach, pier, spa, Gdaล„sk day trip, and casino makes it the most complete casino weekend destination in Central Europe. I have never left Sopot disappointed."

The Hotel

The Sofitel Grand Sopot opened in 1927 as the Grand Hotel โ€” the signature hotel of a Baltic resort town fashionable since the 19th century. Renovated and rebranded as a Sofitel in 2014, the renovation was sympathetic: the art nouveau facade is intact, the lobby retains original proportions, and rooms feel both historic and modern. Standard doubles are spacious by European standards โ€” high ceilings, full-length windows (Baltic sea views available), good bedding. The hotel has 126 rooms, keeping it from feeling corporate. Location is its greatest asset: 2 minutes from the famous wooden pier, 5 minutes from Monte Cassino pedestrian street, 10 minutes from the beach.

The Casino

Grand Casino Sopot is on the hotel's lower level โ€” accessed via a dedicated staircase from the lobby. It's a medium-sized casino: European Roulette (3 tables, PLN 10 minimum), Blackjack (4 tables, PLN 25 minimum), Texas Hold'em Poker (2 tables, evening sessions), and approximately 60 slot machines. The staff are professional and unusually patient with first-timers โ€” questions about rules and chip purchasing are answered without condescension, which is worth noting. The casino bar serves drinks at reasonable prices. Friday evenings are lively without being overwhelming.

Best Weekend Activities Nearby

Gdaล„sk day trip

One of Central Europe's most beautiful cities, 20 min by train. Rebuilt Old Town, Neptune Fountain, European Solidarity Centre โ€” allow 4โ€“5 hours.

Sopot Pier (Molo Sopockie)

511 metres into the Baltic โ€” Europe's longest wooden pier. Free entry evenings. Sunset views are exceptional.

Sopot Forest Park

The forested hill above town is a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Trails range from 30-minute loops to longer routes โ€” good morning activity before spa.

Baltic beach

Sandy beach 10 minutes from the hotel. Not tropical, but the light and sea air are restorative. Extends for kilometres in both directions.

The Verdict

Best for: First casino hotel visitors, romantic weekends, budget-conscious travellers wanting 5-star quality

Anna's weekend tip: Book a sea-view room and walk to the pier at 07:00 before breakfast. The Baltic morning light is one of the things I look forward to most every time I return.
